English Heritage has produced a document on ‘Coastal Defence and the Historic Environment’ which provides advice on the implications of coastal and flood defence for the historic environment. It also considers implications for the historic environment of managed realignment schemes.

Features of the Cuckmere Estuary
English Heritage and William Foot at the Council for British Archaeology produced a report entitled ‘Defence Areas: a national study of Second World War anti-invasion landscapes in England’ in 2005. The report has a chapter dedicated to the Cuckmere estuary (site ‘DA14‘) and is now available online by following the link below.
